Yesterday during the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco Apple has unveiled iOS 7, “the biggest change to iOS since the introduction of the iPhone five years ago” according to the CEO Tim Cook.

The new operating system is already available for developers and will be officially released in the coming fall.

The new interface show a completely renewed design compared to the previous versions: it’s minimal and elegant, with flatter icons and a predominance of white. Colors are used only when useful to highlight contents. The use of 3D layers connected to the motion sensor give the user a real 3D effect when moving the phone.

The result is making your phone “appear bigger” because apps make a better use of the screen.

Lots of new amazing and innovative features will be introduced:

  • the Music App has a brand-new user interface and includes iTunes Radio, Apple’s music streaming service;
  • a smart multitasking function that learns the users’ habits, memorizes your favorite apps and prepares it to be  ready before you open it;
  • the brand new Control Center to easily access to the most used settings as Wi-Fi, brightness, airplane mode and flashlight;
  • a renewed Safari mobile browser with gesture-based navigation, full-screen browsing and flipping card-tab overview;
  • the AirDrop feature will let nearby users share photos or files peer-to-peer;
  • refreshed Camera and Photos with simple layout and the automatic organization of photos by Collections, Moments and Years.
  • Siri with new look and new voices (a male one too) and the integration of Twitter, Bing and Wikipedia;
  • the useful car integration to have your iOS screen on your car and place calls, play music, look up directions.
  • the new App Store will show you apps that are popular nearby and your apps now update automatically.

All the new features are wrapped in this video:

    I have been evaluating iOS7 on my iPhone 5 for the last day or two. Being truthful I fell a little tepid regarding the whole encounter. After many years of design innovation exactly why have Apple made a decision to make their OS seem like a poor relation of Microsoft’s Windows 8. On the other hand it seems to have borrowed heavily from Android. Now you can swipe up to turn on/off WIFI, Bluetooth, very similar to Android.In conclusion I like: Newsstand, the integrated torch, screen transition, new compass interface and mail interface.

    I don’t like: no bulk delete function inside the mail program, it’s still message by message deletion. The pseudo windows interface and menu movement. The settings menu is a little a waste land of white space.
    Like an aging married couple I am finding more faults with it as time goes on but I grow to like it the more time I spend with it.
